When it comes to real estate, the same holds true.  An agent at a reputable brokerage with a good reputation and a ready group of buyer clients can command a higher price for your house. 

Also note, most buyers expect to 'save the commission' if they bother to make an offer on a home that is for sale by owner.  They don't care about your wallet, only their own...  So don't be surprised by lowball offers.

You might want to know that it is a statistical fact, according to NAR, that most For Sale By Owner homes sell for 15-20% less than similar homes in the same neighborhood when sold by Realtors.
